ABOUT US

Kent Canicross was formed by Kelly Payne in 2013 and held its first run at Shorne Country Park back in December of that year where we were joined by members of neighbouring groups.

We are a small friendly group based in Maidstone and Medway and welcome anyone who enjoys their running and their dogs.  We try to cater for all abilities from complete beginner to seasoned runners.  Whether you just want to jog for a mile or two or have your sights set on a marathon, there will usually be others willing to join you at your pace.  The hardest part of all is plucking up the courage to come along for the first time!  There is a mistaken belief that all members of running clubs are super athletes, this is definately not the case with Kent Canicross, even if you haven't managed to run a full 5k without stopping you will find that you will have no trouble keeping up on most group runs as we stop regularly to let everyone catch up and even have walking breaks if required. Join our Facebook group to learn more about our runs and find out where they are taking place, an idea of the distance and pace will be given in the description of the run so you will know whether or not it will be suitable for you, if in doubt feel free to ask.

We try to hold a group run most Thursday evenings and during the day on either Saturday or Sunday at various locations throughout Kent.  Anyone is welcome to set up these events, the more the merrier, as it will give us a greater varety of locations and they will be spread further around the county. We also attend dog friendly parkruns and trail races, details of these are also posted in the events on Facebook.

Our social runs are not competitive, we believe in the enjoyment of running with our canine pets and the company of other like minded people.  There are many benefits in running with a group, apart from the obvious one of security, particularly on the night runs, you will soon find that you can hold a conversation quite comfortably and the miles fly past during the good humoured banter and chit chat.

Remember this group is just an informal social group and is not responsible for the health and safety or actions of any of its members or their dogs, please keep control of your dog at all times and ensure that you have public liability cover, this may well be included in your pet insurance so take a look at your policy wording.
